About "Nurse Avenger"
Play "Nurse Avenger," a first-person shooter game that allows you to stick it to the black-hatted minions of the health insurance industry. At each level, you receive a new “tool”–weapons against insurance company waste and denials of care. These are the tools that government should be using to make health care more affordable and accessible.
Level 1 - Special Weapon: Waste Whacker. HMOs and health insurers waste 30% of our money on overhead and profit. Alternatively, public insurance programs like Medicare spend only 2% of revenue on overhead.
Level 2 - Special Weapon: Salary Sucker. HMOs and health insurers contribute to skyrocketing health insurance costs by rewarding CEOs with huge salaries and bonuses. For example, Blue Cross of California awarded its CEO Leonard Schaeffer nearly $250 million in cash and stock in a merger deal with Anthem.
Level 3 - Special Weapon: Denial Destructor. HMOs and insurers look for any way they can to deny coverage for treatments we need. With a public insurance pool, we'll have the final say in decisions about our medical care.
Level 4 - Special Weapon: Voice Mail Avenger. Insurers make it harder for you to see your doctor in order to boost profits. A public insurance pool will redirect the money spent foolishly on call-center armies whose job is to reduce or deny coverage altogether.
Level 5 - Special Weapon: Purchasing Power. Drug companies overcharge Amercans by 60%. A public insurance pool would flex the buying power of the entire country to provide deep savings to any American regardless of age, income, or insurance status.
Level 6 - Special Weapon: Prevention Power. Necessary preventive screenings–which insurers hate to pay for–are key to catching disease early and saving money in the long run. Under the current system, high costs force patients to skip checkups that could identify illness early when sickness is cheaper to treat and good health outcomes are more likely. A public insurance pool will remove illogical roadblocks to care and focus on preventing disease.
